Rossoblu Steal Another Away Point
By: Chris | October 26th, 2008
Catania walked away from Tuscany with what Zenga called a “salvation point” after drawing 1-1 with Siena, in a game that saw the home side control most of the play.
With a sub-average performance, Catania looked to be heading for defeat until Giuseppe Mascara converted a penalty on goalkeeper Gianluca Curci; Curci took down Michele Paolucci, who had broken in alone behind the Siena defence. I maintain that it is always a good sign when teams win games in which they have been outplayed.
On the flip side, I find it pretty tiresome when players from the team that fails to secure its points whine about “deserving better.” Abdelkader Ghezzal, for example, believed Siena “deserved more” from the game, based on their effort. In fact, they did not. As Bill Parcells once said, “you are what you are.” In case it is not obvious, games are decided solely on the number of goals scored by either side. You do not get brownie points for effort or control of play, so if Siena deserved better, perhaps Ghezzal should have scored a goal. Otherwise, shut up, take the point you earned, and go home.
Next up, Catania plays first place Udinese mid-week at home. Should be a good one.
