Moronic Catania Fans Push Zenga’s Buttons
By: Chris | November 10th, 2008
Catania’s come-from-behind win at home over Cagliari was overshadowed by the behaviour of Catania’s own classless fans. Walter Zenga was visibly annoyed as he endured jeers and whistles by some of the home contingent, apparently unhappy about the Rossoblu’s recent run of bad form, and the early deficit to the visitors on Sunday. Zenga’s response was swift following the game: “All I will say is that in 11 games Catania have earned 18 points, which isn’t bad. If somebody thinks that is not enough they can look for another coach.”
I think the Catanese may have forgotten who they are. This isn’t Rome, Milan or Torino, but Sicily, and expectations need to be set accordingly. Dollar for dollar (or rather, Euro for Euro) Gli Elefanti may be the best-performing squad in Serie A, and much of that is Zenga’s doing.
So, Catania fans, the message is simple: sit down, take a deep breath, and enjoy Walter Zenga’s work while he is here. Because he won’t be here long.
