Lo Monaco to Stand Pat?
By: Chris | August 20th, 2008Apparently the Rossazzurri general manager thinks the Catania attack will pack some punch this season. We had better learn some new names then: Plasmati, Antenucci and Morimoto

While most outside observers think the current Catania squad will have trouble scoring this year, thie view is not shared by the man who pulls the trigger on player moves, Pietro Lo Monaco. In fact, he expects the offence to be “the real surprise” of the season. Antenucci may finally be ready to join the team, rather than being placed on loan, and Takayuki Morimoto has had a good run at the Olympics. There are 12 strikers currently on the squad to choose from, but perhaps only half have a realistic shot at making the team.
My feeling is that they will still be leaning heavily on Mascara and Spinesi this season, to avoid the drop for another year.

Lorenzo I think Catania will be a surprise team of this year. Maybe 9-11 place. They def have some mid-field talent.

I tend to think Catania will rely heavily on Mascara because they’re fags.

Dica is a solid attacker, I think he’ll do well there. Do Catania still have Martinez?

@nick: Martinez is indeed still on the team. They were high on him this time last year, and who can forget his late equaliser against Roma to keep Catania up? But his stock has dropped some, and its not clear that he is favoured by Zenga. He does give them some depth, though.

I love to see interest in calcio Catania. I have lived in Catania for 3 years and I can say after going around to other Serie A squads and living in other cities, there is no other feeling than their stadium. Palermo is a mess too, but I have seen a car blown up, numerous fights and amazing goals. It’s always a party and if your with the home squad (and can speak a couple of words in eastern sicilian)…your good to go. Forza CATANIA!!!
